Apparently I’m still not old enough.

I’m middle aged and I find myself kind of indifferent to them.

I like them in certain spots. I’m just not good enough at crochet or tatting to make them.

Indeed!

That’s because ‘old people’ are the only ones who can remember the beauty of handmade doilies and anti-macassars, and life without tv, ipads, pda’s, and other brain melting devices. A time when tatting, knitting, and crocheting were significant examples of ‘the people’s art’ in most homes and not just footnotes for history students. Many people still practice those delicate arts, thank goodness, but the numbers shrink every year.

I’m 72 and I like “Dollies”.

I loved dailies when I was little, but I got that appreciation from my elderly Grandmother, LOL.

Grandpa is such a bad influence on poor Nelson.

Doilies on armrests… It’s been years.

I live in a whole city of nothing but old people. No doilies around here.

Must be a very ‘dry’ bunch if they exercise none of those traditional hobbies that offer one a chance to relax and meditate while gaining a sense of achievement at the same time.

I think you need to be an old goilie to like doilies, Nelson.

I don’t think you need to be old, but you may need to be female, I don’t think males take much notice of things like that. You can make one and ask your husband if he likes it and he’ll say “very nice” but he’s just being polite.

And a girl.

Let’s face it. Boys don’t like frilly things!

Aalondra: you are right. The majority of producers and appreciators are female. However, this guy was very fortunate in being able to watch as Mom applied her considerable talents to the fine ‘needle work’ that such things demand. She gave several to my wife when we married, and, while time and wear and tear have taken a few of them, we treasure those that remain and the memories that are contained within them. Another art slowly fading from what passes for the ‘modern world.’

I’LL say! I haven’t seen one of those in 50 years!!
