Well Earl you two have been together a long time. Opal should know you.

You can make scissor motions with the wrong end of a can opener.

Bring her garden shears.

…so he came back with a hammer or a can opener before? How often does he bring back the wrong tool?

You can’t knit with a hammer?

Earl knows what it is, but then forgets what it was again…

You need every bit of help you can get, Earl.

You must be very specific with Earl!

Well, you’ve given her plenty of material to work with, Earl!

Like the people who say telephone and stick their thumb in their ear with their little finger sticking out even though everyone has used cell phones for decades.

Directions are usually much better (easier to remember and understand) with pictures.

The scissors motion is a kinetic reminder of what you are looking for and returning with. Earl can keep the scissors motion going until he’s back.

Maybe the verbal AND visual cues will prevent him from asking himself, “now what did i come into this room for?”[C’mon now…we’ve all done it]

Now the key is whether Earl will remember to come back to Opal with the scissors.

Thank goodness she does Earl….

Bring her the pruning shears Earl, after all they are scissors, really, really big scissors.

Maybe Earl don’t hear so well and a visual sign will help him to understand her if she mumbles too. works for me.

I was distracted because Opal is wearing an orange blouse.

Poor Earl …………. Gets no respect …. :)

And run back, fast like a bunny.

Buy for her a surprise gift, a toolbox.

Those behaviours (Hammer, can opener) are “get it yourself” honey…

A gesture is worth a thousand words.

One of my very favorite jokes:A husband and wife are sitting in the living room. He asks, “Would you like some ice cream?” She answers, “Sure, I’d love some.” He goes to the kitchen. Much banging around is heard and he’s gone for some time. He finally comes out with two plates of bacon and eggs. She gives him a dirty look and says, “I KNEW you’d forget the toast!”

Am reminded of the Three Fates, with Opal here about to play the part of the third sister, Atropos, who, after the thread of man’s life was spun and measured, cut it however she wanted, long or short.

Take your time getting those scissors, Earl!

Earl doesn’t have a problem identifying various implements, but he does have a problem remembering what implement he’s going after.
