That’s why I’ve got a pair in every room…I’d lose my head if it wasn’t attached…

Pluggers, after we reach a certain age are guaranteed life in the Hereafter….as in “What am I here after?”

Sad, but true. This is the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s Disease whether we want to admit it or not.

Today’s panel gives us a minor variation on a very common theme…………….In other words “been there, done that”. At least he seems to remember whether he was going up or coming down the staircase.

I’m very sad to admit that walking into a room only to (temporarily) forget what it was I went there for does occasionally happen to me. Usually, if I just stand there for a few seconds, it’ll come back to me why I’m there. Once it does, I finish my task and life goes on … and if it doesn’t, well, then, it must not have been very important anyhow (but that almost never happens).

I sometimes tease my husband that my “early-onset Alzheimer’s” is kicking in again when that happens but I don’t honestly believe that. I just accept the fact that I’m no longer 21 years old with the fairly awesome memory I used to have. I’m 41 now and temporary lapses (in memory) are just going to happen occasionally. Now, if I forget where I live when I walk a few feet down the driveway to get my mail, then I’ll have reason to worry!

The problem is, by the time we hit a certain age, there is so darned much stuffed into our skulls that there isn’t room for more. If only we could run down to Best Buy and buy extra memory for ourselves!

I have to write notes to myself because I have a lot to remember to do. They are taped on my purse, my desk at work, my microwave, places where I know I will see them. I’m in my fifities, those of you there, should know what I mean, those of you too young yet, YOUR DAY IS COMING! COUNT ON IT!

Somtimes age doesn’t have a thing to do with it. I’ve been at work/school/home, started to do something, then forgot what it was I was looking for/goin to do to begin with. Just got too many things on my mind…that’s why I carry a note pad with me, too…

rw1h: As the Alzheimer’s Foundation will happily remind you, not all absent-mindedness is Alzheimer’s. And since my Nana had it, yes, I do know what I’m talking about.
