The red dye was added by a store owner to keep the employees from eating up the profits in the nut department. It was intended to stain the fingers of anyone eating the nuts, including the staff, who were dipping in without paying. No flavor added.

I never eat red pistachios. Guess I’m not a plugger (even though they used one of my ideas once).

I haven’t seen dyed pistachios in ages. Do they really still make them? I suppose you have to be a plugger to remember them at all.

“Pistachio nuts” – as opposed to what, pistachio grapes? Pistachio cats? FishStachios™?

Dyed pistachios, I think, went out with the red #2 scare that also did in red M&Ms for a while.
