These days, an answering machine message saying “We’re not home right now” just might get your house robbed if you’re not careful! I prefer to say "We can’t come to the phone right now . . . " It’s a whole lot more ambiguous.

Pluggers got the machine as a gift & never figured out how to change the generic message.
