Oh, boy. Another problem would be cell phone’s battery goes dead as well as not enough change to use a pay phone or to ride a bus.

Yes, Gary (and Donnie), especially if you are a lady plugger. After about a hour locked in my dead car, mall security came by and helped. So much for last minute Christmas shopping.

HOW ABOUT HAVING A SPARE BATTERY AS A BACKUP. MY PARENTS OWN A V.W. BEETLE IN THE 1960’S AND WHEN THE CAR DID NOT START DO TO A WEAK BATTERY, THEY WOULD PUT THE JUMPER CABLES ON THE SPARE BATTERY TO START THE ENGINE.

Back in the day even parking on a hill could be of help for starting, but now, is it really helpful to have keyless entry, electric locks and all that convenience that depend on a battery? Sure hope the mall is still open so I can buy a cell phone.

…and always back into the parking spot or pull through if there’s an open one in front (if you can). That way they can pull right up close, engine to engine and the cables will reach.

They now have battery backup devices with compressors that eliminate this altogether. Even pluggers can buy one.

But listen to the sound of the crickets. Isn’t that soothing?

This happened to my mother last year — only it was in the school parking lot across the street from her church on a Saturday night. Thankfully she had her cellphone with her and she was able to call my husband and me to come and give her car a jump. After that, she definitely needed a new battery.

The new vehicles you can not jump start without the risk of blowing out the ECU or setting off the air bag in both vehicles. Oh you may do it a few times and get away with it but sooner or later a voltage spike will get you. I do not even own jumper cables since I got my new truck.
