I don’t even adopt puppies anymore. I look for older dogs who wouldn’t have a chance otherwise. Everyone wants a puppy. No one wants older dogs. Older dogs are normally house trained already and are so grateful when they are adopted by someone who takes good care of them and feeds them regularly and gives them lots of affection. So what if I missed the house training and teething years. I get the loving faithful companion years.
The reasons to adopt an older dog instead of buying a puppy:
1. They are usually house broken and if they aren’t and the people there say they are, you can take them back.
2. They cost a lot less, at a pound they are virtually free.3. You know what medical problems they have or are likely to develop.4. They have already got their shots and any medical care they need, and that can get expensive.5.. You get to feel like you are doing a good thing.6. You don’t have to guess how big they are going to get.7. If you may have to move on to another place, or die in a few years, you can choose one the will probably last about as long as you will. 8. Their personality is established. If you want a nice calm dog, choose one. If you want Cujo, you can find him too. ( Too bad we don’t get to choose kids after they get through being teenagers)

kitties, too! We were adopted by a cat a few years ago, and he’s now my baby.

Puppy breath!! However, my husband and I always adopt older cats/dogs. Kittens and puppies are pretty irresistible though.
