Always buy from the owner. You’ll learn more about the vehicle’s history.

The Fiat 850 I bought in 1969. Used. Loved that car; it handled like a dream after my first car, a BEE-YOOtiful 1964 Chevy Impala (not only used but declared totaled by the previous owner’s insurance company; don’t ask) that drove like a rudderless ship in high winds. One morning I had a hard time starting the Fiat. Being young, and having been instructed by my boyfriend in the advantages of a clutch in starting a car, I got in, put it in neutral with one foot on the brake. Then pulling myself partway out I gave it a good push with the other foot down my parents’ sloped driveway, hopped back in, waited as long as I could while it gathered momentum, then popped the clutch and off I went to work. Did that for several days before I found out the distributor cap was cracked and it was shorting out because of dew. We had more fun “making do” while we were in school back then….!

And what’s with the “certified used car” scam? “Yep, it’s a used car!”
