Or they concreted in the storm channels to keep them from eroding. Sure ruins the crawdad fishing.

Did this once as a kid in my father’s aquarium. They later jumped out before we got to let them go and we were finding petrified frogs under the furniture for a couple of weeks.

Yep – what fool hardy dare devils we were as kids…playing in the creek catching tadpoles and crawdaddies. I’m surprised we didn’t die of some allergy or infection or get locked up form tampering with the environment….or that our parent’s didn’t get locked up for allowing us to roam free and go to the creek.

    Damn we had it good.

One of the city parks in Anaheim had a concrete creek running through it. My brothers and I caught tadpoles there every year. Mom made us let them go, but it was sure fun catching them.

I wonder how many tadpoles out of a thousand enjoys life with legs for even a week? If they survive llittle boys, there are always those pesky birds!

Absolutely wonderful! So much more exciting and interesting than the video games and such. Hunting for tadpoles and seining for fish as a kid are some of the many outdoor things that inspired me to become a biologist.

Love the eyeballs on these little critters. But hey, don’t we all start out as little tadpoles?
