When I was in High School, the average length of a skirt was about 2 or 3 inches below the knee. Mini Skirts did not come along until sometime after College. Still wear a high cut one-piece swimsuit, size 10, at 74, though I am starting to consider something a bit more modest.
When I go to a swimming pool or beach, I wish that all swimming suits sold to women above a certain age or BMI, would come with shirts long enough to cover their crotch. I’ve looked at some short skirts designed to go over swimming suits, but they’re not long enough to cover my butt. Some of us prefer to be modest to protect other people’s eyes.
Skirt hems were on the way up when I was in 7th/8th grade. We’d roll the waistbands of our uniform skirts to achieve the desired level of fashionability, whereupon the nuns made us kneel and we’d have to unroll till the hem hit the floor, which brought them to just above the middle of the knee. The 60s. Sigh, what a crazy time but we were still able to have fun then.
We girls had to make our graduation skirts in sewing class. They were sheath skirts in a hideous burgundy gabardine “That you’ll all be able to wear later!” Yeah, right! Why did boys get off with buying a bolo tie?

Provided you can find a skirted bathing suit anymore. I tried looking this year, as I needed a new one, but couldn’t find any at all.

You are right, and I saw that movie. However, that was Science Fiction and did not influence the dress code at my school.

Also, in 1956, I was a freshman in Highschool.
