Well, it’s harder to adopt suitable humans from the shelter. Especially ones that will give you unconditional love no matter what stage of life you’re in.
Just rescued a 10 year old female Great Dane. 125# of love and devotion. Serious hip displaysia but she has already adopted me and follows me around the house. Putting down rugs every where for her to walk on.
I recommend everyone adopt from shelters that help the elderly keep their pets for as long as possible, it’s win-win-win… and cheaper (win)…and morally uplifting (win)…
We have a deal with the Oregon Humane Society, if my wife and I die together, they get our money (Transfer on Death, so no taxes) and they take care of our four dogs.
Something else that is Pitiful to my Wife and I is the thought of what happens to all these Loved Pets after their Human Companions Pass Away and they are left with No-One and Nothing. We often worry about what will happen to Our " Family " when we go. We Pray that someone will care and take them in and show them Love till they go to rest. This actually bothers me more than my passing, Crazy aren’t I ??? The Earth doesn’t " Belong " to us, We " Belong " to the Earth and ALL of it’s Creatures have the Right to a Good Life and to Share it !!!
we tried to get our last 2 dogs as rescues. they wanted over 400 each time. so we “mail-ordered” both times. had good luck & was at least $100 less each. showed up on an airplane in a carrier in the special baggage section. sorry, but i think this whole “rescue” thing is just for profit. used to be able to pick up a free “mutt” in the classifieds. now, these mutts are “designer dogs” who command thousands of dollars.

If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man.

Imagine being naked, in a room full of people that you can’t speak their language, and they all want to touch you. That is the life of a dog.

Almost all of our cats have been rescued from the streets. We just have to pay for health checks & neuter/spay.

sad comment on modern life. I’d rather have 9 kids and 35 grandchildren romping around me than 9 dogs and 35 cats.
