Never seen that done before but why would you want to do that, squirrels are so cute and I love watching them. Let them share it’s the nature of nature or rather it should be .
The only way this caption makes sense is if that dog-man lives in the bird feeder? Because if it’s his home security system, the bird feeder is his home, which he is making secure at the moment? What a crummy place to live. He’ll never fit in there.
I wrapped some flashing around the pole that supports our bird feeder. It’s fun to watch the squirrels trying to make the stretch and slowly slide down.
Squirrels are wild animals that can do a lot of destruction. We had squirrels purposely hitting us in the head with green cones from 50’ above, it hurts! They tear out insulation and can make a huge racket under your house. I don’t feed the squirrels or want to attract them to my home.
My mom has a battery-powered “Yankee Flipper” squirrel-flinging bird feeder. If anything heavier than a bird tries to perch on it, the perch rotates & sends the critter flying.
I make Marines outta mine. Put a lag-screw on the end of a 2-foot chain, twist a cob on the end of it. Offset hanger of 18-inches, on the top of a wooden string-mop handle, anchored on a stub of an old cedar fence post—make ‘em climb up/down the chain, work for it!☺ I’m fortunate, I guess? All my birds/squirrels, even the big-red headed woodpeckers, seem to know their places in the pecking/non-pecking order. Seed on the bottom-grid, cob on the top…!☺

time for squirrel to find another bird feeder that doesn’t have a bottle threaded through the post.

Who feeds birds and not squirrels?

Wouldn’t guarantee that would work with some squirrels.

Ah, the very first start of the Squirrel maze. They’ll love you for it.

You will just make the squirrels smarter now that they will have to figure out how to get the food.

If that’s where he’s placing it, that squirrel will have no trouble jumping to it.

Our squirrels simply use the guard as an al fresco eating place.

I liked greasing the pole better; it was easier and the resulting attempts to get up the pole by the squirrels was more comical.

I tried that with a plastic squirrel deflector, and they chewed thru it. The metal reflector from a clamp-on trouble light works wonderfully.

You should go to World Cat through your local library system and get the video “Squirrel Wars”. It’s hilarious!

Anyone with a bird feeder will tell you tales of squirrel ingenuity.

That’s not going to have any effect at all. Squirrels can JUMP!

There are bird feeders and squirrel feeders and never the twain shall meet.

I have those on my bird feeders too. Check out wild birds unlimited. They save us a ton of money on bird feed.

It’s a novel idea, to save money on a squirrel shield, but if that is a soft plastic cola bottle, it may slow them down 1-2 secs
