Camping as a kid? I can still smell that Coleman leaking cooking thing that threatened to burn down everything. And now, the closest I get to camping is the Four Seasons’ Hotel.
When I was a young child, we stayed in a cottage most summers. It had one cold water pump outside, then eventually a cold-water pump in the kitchen. It was years before a small bathroom was added onto the back. I don’t recall a shower at all, but it was on a lake. (I added that it was cold water only for people who never had to rely on hand-pumped water.) I think we didn’t even have electricity the first few years.
