If a person is still in high school inside the United States, they can look at “AP” (Advanced Placement) classes.
Each AP class is taught (or is supposed to be taught) as if it was a 101-level college course in the given field of study. At the end of the academic year you can take a standardized test (made by the same people behind a lot of other college standardized tests) for an additional fee; if you do well enough on the test, a minimum 3 / 5 score when I was in high school, then many colleges will accept your AP test as the equivalent of a final examination in the equivalent class… although there will likely be paperwork to fill out that may require you to submit a copy of your high school transcripts.
Rack up enough high scores on your AP tests, and you can basically knock out your freshman year of college on the cheap.
That being said, some schools and colleges do also offer “dual-credit” courses, high school courses that will give you some level of college credit. Look into if your high school is offering those as well.
