How, pray tell, do we know what Cristoforo believed as he expired?

He was a brave man who helped to create an empire that shaped much of the modern world. His mission was no failure, unless you consider the Spanish Empire, and the Conquest of the Americas a bad thing.

And if you are reading this ona computer screen, instead of learning about it from the tribal chanting of your shaman, your answer should be examined for potential self-loathing, which has become quite the trend in present day America.

FFS, people, you are not your ancestors. Their actions led to you, but do not define you. Your actions define you, not your history. Shame is a wonderful acculturating emotion, but needs to be directed at the reprehensible behavior of the present (which can be altered) and not at the actions of historical figure in the past, who were functioning under a completely different understanding of the universe.

This persistent deconstruction of historical figures through the application of modern sensibilities is corrosive to the society.

    Stop it.

I’ll wait until after the 2020 election to answer the question.
