As a Brit lurker on this site, I am now curious as to which of our fine cop shows they’re watching. Susan, m’dear, some of them are boring $hite, but credit us with some that up the gore and body count!
Do they mean “Midsomer Murders”, a piece of lightweight hokum about a picture-postcard English shire county full of wonderfully telegenic villages and classic English rural scenery, that still manages to have a murder rate that eclipses Greater New York’s?
Or “Taggart”, a long-running Scottish policecom about gritty inner-city Glasgow and murder among the Jocks that has viewers south of Carlisle reaching for the english subtitles? (Gods know how your real extreme Glasgow accents play in the USA, then, although the blood, guts, and murder count is high enough to appease fans of typical American cop shows).
“The Bill”, about routine crime and policing among gorblimey guv’nor chirpy thieving and murdering Cockneys?
“Life on Mars”, about the way things were done in Manchester in the seventies? Lots of violent gore there, usually when the hardnut coppper is interrogating a nonce…
“The Sweeney”, all sex, swearing and violence among Special Branch?
“Silent Witness”, where the police pathologist doesn’t just slice and dice the bodies afterwards - she gets out there and finds out who landed the corpse on her slab in the first place? (Now I can see this sort of thing would put the shivers up Teena and her mum…)

Must be a different version of BBC than I have. All I can find is World News, The Queens Horses and assorted hype for the Royals.
