Three fingers, to be pedantic. (Teena’s hands have three fingers and a thumb). Matt Groening said the reason was when you end up in an animated format, little things like this save a lot of artist time and materials. Not so crucial if it’s a three-panel daily strip, but mkes mucho sense when you have to do twenty-five seperate drawings per second. for a twenty-three minute feture …. Groening apparently did all his characters like this right from the off, so he could use it as a sales point for the animated version. Was Alison B trying for an animated Teena? That, I would like to see…
