I didn’t try it until I was of legal age. Gave it up soon after as it got in the way of doing things.

Many years ago, my Dad smoked 4 packs of Picayunes a day….(strongest cigaret ever made….woke up one morning, didn’t want one and never smoked another for the rest of his life…

It depends … for 30 years, I smoked three packs a day of long, unfiltered Pall Mall Red, which is the next thing to bathing daily in coal tar. I quit completely in order to be able to enjoy my kids more – that was 19 years ago and I’m still going – well, still going, anyway.

Mom’s pack a day taught me not to smoke, Dad’s almost never being home, awake, and sober for more than an hour taught me not to drink much.

What I expect will be Jeri’s fate reminds me of a bit from “I Remember Mama” in which several of Nils’ buddies had been picked up by the police for some mischief, but he was home listening to their actor boarder read.

" for ten years before he quit. Five years later he was diagnosed with lung cancer. It proved to me that once the damage is done, the damage is done; and all this malarkey that you add years to your life when you quit after smoking for 40 years, is just that…malarkey"

Um … yup, that’s what it proves … I guess … there’s certainly no arguing with proof like that….

My father said he quit smoking because my brother and I were eating the butts out of the ashtray. (No, we were not 30 years old at the time.)
