My S-I-L once bought a nice cashmere sweater. She told her daughter under “threat of death” she better not wear it, and put it up on a high shelf in her closet. But the kid couldn’t resist and snuck it out one time, to wear to a party…and spilled something on it. So she laundered it. And it shrunk to a doll size. She put it back in the box and up on the shelf, fearing the worst.
Her mom had forgotten about the sweater, so never discovered it till a number of years later. When she did, she considered all the time the kid had been fearing the discovery was punishment enough.

Mother isn’t buying it. Come clean girls. Maybe you could confess and ask her to teach you how to make cookies.
