Gordo is a wimp. He doesn’t have the courage to tell the girls he didn’t want to bead with them, play dolls, etc. but still likes them just not all of their activities.
He didn’t want to hurt her feelings by telling her that he had something he’d rather do. Learning how to do this is part of growing up. He’ll find out that lying is not the way to do it. Just being honest is the way to go.
