It’s funny. My kids were never the trouble I was for my folks. I was the deviant who snuck out at night and hung out with friends causing mischief till the cops caught us. My kids preferred to have friends over or just stay home with us — literally with us reading or playing games. Even when they went out with friends in high school, they never stayed out late. I had been so prepared for the trouble I had caused that I couldn’t tell if I was proud of them or a little disappointed. But in the end, they seemed (and seem now) happy, so I guess that’s what counts.
Good memories. Summer was great when we were kids. Outside all the time, riding our bikes, all kinds of things kids can’t or won’t do these days. We only stayed inside when it rained.
My neighborhood was quite rural. There were woods and open fields, and we had a good side yard where we had a tent, a good Army surplus one, 10′ × 10′ I think, to sleep out in during the summer. Spent many a good summer night in that tent. Stayed indoors when it rained, but if there was a thunderstorm I’d sit on the front porch and watch it.
