It won’t happen. It happened after 9/11, but then that morphed into the occupation of Iraq, which had nothing to do with 9/11.
If Osama had been killed when Bush was President, the Republicans would have wanted him on Mt. Rushmore. But it happened under Obama, so they refused to even say “Good job, Mr. President.”
That only works at the start of a war. If we start winning it, the liberals start screaming to get us out of there. It is totally unfair for us to shoot someone just because they are trying to kill us.
Interesting meme I see on another comic strip, and I see it here, too: Republicans make messes that Democrats have to clean up – all the while Republicans are blaming Democrats for having made the mess and how long it’s taking us to clean the mess up. Right now, we are in the Republican part of the cycle. Even I’m not sure I want to think of how much effort it will take to clean things up during the next Democratic cycle…
Maybe the Trump Disciples who claim that Obama ‘never bothered to go to Congress for authorization’ could give highlights of the Congressional debates…

Except that the Republican Congress refused to allow any debate and decreed that the authorizations given to Bush was sufficient for all situations and that Obama would be required to make all decisions, for which he would be bitterly criticized.

Nor has there been any Congressional debate since. They are busy giving tax cuts to the rich (WITHOUT CONGRESSIONAL DEBATE once more), avoiding the subject of gun massacres, and suppressing investigation into Russian interference in our elections.
