The goals of the Republican party have always been clear: Lower tax rates for the rich and corporations. Deregulation of business including environmental, safety, and liability regulations. Complete depowering of unions and worker’s rights. Complete defunding of tax-based social/welfare programs.
Their methodology of achieving these goals is never direct, so they engage in culture wars to get people to vote for them. Exxon Mobil doesn’t care about abortion or guns, but people who vote for the party that favors their business practices, do care.
Politicians know that “You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”.
You just need to fool enough people all of the time to keep getting re-elected.
If there was a balance between intellect and emotion when if comes to governing, then there wouldn’t be insurrectionists attacking the Capitol while their Dear Leader hides a safe distance away while planning his next round of fundraising…
All I can say is that I have lived through 14 Presidents some good, some bad and some indifferent I hope to live through this one. My Country will survive. Absent Friends
I am getting hooked on this comic and he sage comments although I don’t always agree with them. But freedom of speech is for everyone even though some read like War and Peace, but the first thing in the morning I get a cup of Joe and a wee dram and read away. I like everyone here so thank you all. Absent friends

Says the party of “NO!”
No governing when they are in power.
No allowing the other party to govern when they are in power.

LBJ understood the Republican approach to ‘governing’.

And the last thing I see
Is my heart still beating
Breaking out of my body
And flying away. Like a bat out of hell!
