It seems that ranked voting might lead to a better outcome.

    One data point, at least.

If only there was a 3rd choice without throwing your vote away, why not?

The system is set up for 2 parties. You need a majority of the Electoral College to win, not a plurality. 3 strong candidates means that Congress picks the President. The Democrats and Republicans are both coalitions of smaller groups that joined together to get 50%.

And it sends no “message.” If you vote for an ultra-left 3rd party candidate and the Republican wins, the Democrats don’t think they need to get further left, they think they need to be more like Republicans.

Vote with your heart in the primary. In the General Election, vote for one of the two, because one of them WILL win, and you want that to be the one who will do the best job.

I did that in 2016 and given the outcome, I would vote for Mr. Sanders again! With how “Dark Brandon” is working out, I am VERY, VERY glad I voted for President Biden in 2020. Almost another FDR for crying out loud.

I would rather vote for someone I want, and lose, then vote for someone I dont want, and win. – Voltaire
