Oop is related to Nixon? Remember Alley Oop with beauty and backstory. Wonmug (Einstein) with intelligence and some dignity. The strip’s only drawback was its sometimes glacial slowness. At least the soundbite generation gets to see some venerable characters from cartoon history. And the artists may eventually learn to draw with grace, and also transcend being a mere gag strip.
Ugly, ugly art! I’ve read this strip since Hamlin. Its sometimes glacial slowness was relieved by its physical beauty and the appeal of its characters. There is some virtue in rendering single panel gags, as long as the characters have depth. The gross deformation of the gorgeous Ooola in the final panel should have not left the studio.
Bumblebees couldn’t fly if they had little propellers. The wings are wrong.
