For what it’s worth, several other sites claim up to 30 miles. The Yahoo answers one (the smallest distance) also happens to be the only one offering a scientific explanation and some math behind it.
Hmm, so 14 miles claimed here, yet when I looked it up on google (yahoo answers), the claim there was a little over 3 1/2 miles. I’d be curious to find out which is correct.
The curious thing I find is that either way, if the candle is at ground level on a perfectly flat plain, after a little over 2 miles, you can’t see it anyway due to the curvature of the earth’s surface. :)
So I read about this strip in comments on another strip I follow - apparently that author appreciates this strip. So I checked it out, and I quickly decided I don’t really like it very much. So how come I’m still reading it every day after a month?
