@matthewz did you see Mark responded: Gammill is just a name with absolutely no relevance to the gag. I have a friend with that name.

Over on Facebook Mark posted this: by Mark Parisi Oh, I just discovered a Gammill is a quilting machine. I had no idea. That does confuse things even more than they already were. I did ask where the name came from. Waiting to see if he responds.
There is also a comic illustrator named Kerry Gammill, but I don’t what what it would have to do with this strip.
That’s Bloom County, that ended its run in 1989. Opus was a later spinoff off :)
They are Rick and Chumlee from Pawn Stars :)
