That is pretty out of line, Gertie-you should know better about things like that, being a mother yourself. (I think there was a storyline a while back that she was coming back from visiting her grandson when her car broke down…)
How is it the place was mobbed when Slim was struggling to help out, but this guy has time to hang over the counter to flirt with Gertie?
I also notice that the sketching of some characters, such as these two, look far more “lifelike” than others, like Joel and Rufus. Anyone know why this might be?
Bandit Ace-I didn’t say she was African American-I just speculated that she might be swept off her feet by a new man in town, which would be the cue for Walt Wallet to take up residence with his friends at the Old Comics Home. I could be totally off base, too. :-)
(waves hand) I was the one who predicted that this story arc may possibly be a Gertie/Earl E. Byrd love story, and this will be the lead in for our dear old Walt to head off to the Old Comics Home.
Let me guess…he’s going to meet the African American nurse who takes care of Mr. Walt Wallet; they will fall in love, get married, and then Skeezix and the rest of the family will have to try to get another caretaker for Walt. There! I’ve figured out the story arc! :-)
Maybe Corky has finally had it with Suds, too. In yesterday’s strip, Slim asked Corky if he could at least wash dishes since Suds was out, Corky said no because he had already hired someone else. Corky DOES need someone reliable, and Slim DOES have a primary responsibility to the garage.
I think I like the voice-activated request lines even worse. The slightest bit of background noise throws them off. “I’m sorry, I didn’t understand your request.” People stare as I walk past yelling, “RIGHT!” into the phone…
