“Actually, most Congresspersons DO fly commercial when returning to their districts. “Rules” mandate the Speaker and certain others in the “succession” register must fly on Air Force planes, the type determined by the Air Force, not Congress.”

That’s right, dtroutma. And guess who changed that rule because the Speaker is 3rd in line to the Presidency? The Bush administration.

Dr. Harris, if you’re buying into the death panels bleeep, then I would suggest it is someone else who is “dain-bramaged.”

    Is that Rush Limbaugh?

  4. about 15 years ago on Bob Gorrell

GNWachs - “BTW, so far this term 200 congressional health care bills have been filed. I challenge anyone to find the actual ones filed by the Republicans. Not newsworthy. And as a practical matter they are not. Whatever the Dems eventually want is what they will get.”

Do you mean amendments? 160 of them were filed by Republicans and added to the bill. And I do hope you’re right about your last sentence. A watered down bill is next to useless.

Where is Breen? This cartoon is two months old.

  6. about 15 years ago on Chip Bok

By the way, all three statements in this cartoon have been said by Obama.

Wow. Okay, everyone. Single payer (like Medicare) is different that universal health care. Right now we are NOT a universal systembecause insurance companies can deny you coverage or drop you for any reason, usually because you get sick. Nice ,huh?

We have an existing system and Obama’s trying to conform to that. If you’ve been listening, his reasoning is that if we started from scratch there would be too much disruption in the system.

A public option is just another insurance plan, but instead of buying it from an insurance company, you’re buying it from the government. YOU ARE BUYING IT, it’s not free.

ANandy “When CITIZENS, who are guaranteed the right to redress their grievances are ignored, cannot voice their opinions to those elected to represent them, frustration mounts.”

Hope you felt the same way when protesters during the Bush years were “allowed” to redress their grievances a mile away from any venue in designated “free speech zones.”

Perhaps if people would care to know what’s going on instead of assuming the worst, you’d know that the Queen actually REQUESTED an iPod.

You’d also know that besides the right wing nuts who cry foul in pite of the fact that we had a mealy-mouthed imbecile screwing things up for the last eight years, no one else CARES about this kind of crap. Read the British papers instead of watching Fox News. They actually thought it was cool.

Obama rocked the G-20. Deal with it.

Perhaps it’s time for a little less drawing and a little more research.

Feb. 2001 - “Bush Administration Strips Census Bureau of Authority to Adjust Count”

    http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary0286-10941540ITM

[Bush Commerce Secretary Don Evans] Friday issued a rule that makes him the final arbiter over the hotly contested political issue of whether the initial population count is accurate or needs to be statistically adjusted. The move removes from the Census bureau the decision over whether to adjust the 2000 count to guard against an undercount of minorities and low income Americans.
