Like “The Mona Lisa” rising Phoenix-like out of a huge pile of finger paintings from a nursery school’s art class, this little gem of a strip we have today IS a masterpiece when compared with what we’ve been getting for a long, long time.
Plus, this injection of human qualities and personality into the strip is something we also haven’t seen in quite a while. I sure hope that all this, along with the more interesting art work, are all good signs of things to come.
Earl is not being portrayed in any such light. He’s working, how can that be lazy? He is simply taken with Gertie, how can that be sex-obsessed? Gertie’;s a smart, hard-working, and kind woman; I see this eventually working into a relationship. How can that be bad? Or maybe not. We’ll have to see. But if it does, if anyone is
familiar with Gertie at all, it is unlikely she would be fooled by a such
a shallow person if Earl was like that. From previous happenings in
the strip, Earl does not seem shallow at all.
Seeing offense where none is meant
only causes trouble unnecessarily.
In addition, being lazy, shiftless and sex-obsessed is not limited to any one race, nationallity, or
ethnic group. If one does portray
someone like that, it doesn’t mean it’s racist necessarily. And if one knows any thing about this author and his history with the strip, he simply wouldn’t do anything like that anyway.
Inserting race into everything just
keeps the whole issue alive and
accomplishes nothing except stir up trouble. This is
simply nonproductive and works
against everything that person
is supposedly for in the first
place.
Being persistent is also a postive
quality, in general, unless it leads to stubborness. How can that be bad?
Amen! May we never forget that day.
