I must’ve got lucky then. Our HOA fees are downright reasonable, they include water, trash removal, landscaping (lawn care), snow clearing. All things I hate doing myself. Plus if I want to plant some flowers or other vegetation, no one has ever said anything to me. Some of my neighbors who’ve lived here for years have really beautiful gardens too!
But I’ve had friends living in HOAs that will fine you for replacing a door lock (front door) with a non-approved one (like if you want a smart lock for instance) or if you plant non-approved flowers in your backyard!! Like WTF?!
Different people can like different things at different times. I try not to call them (the food) names because it’s not really absolute. Whatever floats your boat!
That was kind of my point. Coffee is gross, to you. I love the smell of coffee, the flavor when used in chocolates or cake. But I don’t like drinking coffee at all, in any form!
I don’t like pineapple in my food but I love drinking smoothies or juices with pineapple in it.
I’ve read some authors that make me wonder if they’ve ever had a proper conversation with a woman after the age of 10 or so. Mansplaining, talking over them or at them, flirting, etc. does not count as proper conversation in this context.
I love Brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower. Lightly toss with olive oil, salt, pepper, and some seasoning of choice (I typically use taco seasoning or something with garlic in it). Roast at 450 for about 15-20 minutes or longer (depending on oven). Sprinkle shredded cheese on top and under the broiler until cheese is melting. It’s all I can do to not eat them until dinner is ready :)
Now that I think of it, any vegetable tastes good when you roast them. Caramelize them baby!
That said, gammaguy’s explanation above is spot on. Similar to how cilantro can taste like soap to some people but I love it. My partner adores bananas, I cannot stand the smell and refuse to touch it with bare hands :D
Another thing to note is that our taste buds and food preferences change with age and experience. I couldn’t stand eggs as a child, now I can’t get enough of them. I love dark chocolate and coffee now but definitely remember stating they were gross when I was about 10 or so. The milk chocolate I adored as a kid tastes too sweet for me now. So you never know what may change.
That’s why I like to taste different foods I don’t like every few years. Maybe I’ll like them as an adult. Maybe it just needed a different cooking method or recipe. Why deprive myself of new flavors now because I once declared “cabbage should be in the garbage, not on my plate”, about 5 decades ago?!
Regardless of the type of floor, we always take our street shoes off when coming into the house. My feet are always cold, so I wear socks indoors (MI weather means it’s cold more often than not). Partner wears indoor slippers. All my friends and family do the same as well. My retired parents and 85 year old grandparents do the same. It baffles me that others don’t!
We have extra slippers for regular visitors. Sure you can vac and mop the floors but does anyone actually like doing it? As it is, I find having to sweep everyday annoying (recently replaced carpet with lvp) and I mop every week. Thankfully no pets or kids. I’m definitely getting a robo vacuum this year!
Someone mentioned sweaty or smelly feet but I’ve found that my feet tend to sweat or smell less when I’m barefoot. I also have flat feet so it’s easier to walk barefoot than otherwise. Any guests are going to have to remove shoes, I don’t care if you wear your socks in the house or use the extra slippers or go barefoot. But street shoes are NOT coming in.
This would be me if I didn’t stop myself every time I get the urge to start a new hobby. If I can barely find the time to read a book, make some art, or play video games (current and only hobbies), then I don’t have the time to start a new one!
Also helps if you’re broke and can’t really afford to buy anything anyway LOL!
It was the same for me when I went mountain climbing in the Himalayas. Until then – being someone who lived their entire lives in a major city – I’d honestly never seen so many stars in the sky. Plus since we were on a mountain, you feel really close to the stars, they don’t seem quite so far away! Moon wasn’t in the way either, so totally spectacular.
I can relate. I spend a lot of time organizing my desk and art supplies, enough that my partner often comments that I have 2 hobbies – organizing my art supplies and actually making art!
