I’m watching my dad die from the effects of smoking, though he quit 22 years ago when he had a heart attack. It’s heartbreaking to watch him weaken, he who was always so strong and athletic, as the pulmonary fibrosis gets worse. I lost an aunt and a cousin to smoking-induced lung cancer. I hate those things with a passion. They’ve killed too many people I love. Plus… I’m allergic to the smoke.

She’ll lay it across the rafters so she doesn’t fall through the drywall or plaster that is the ceiling. It’ll give her something solid to stand on.

I’ll never forget missing first place in the regional spelling bee for my grade level when I screwed up the spelling of “icy”: i-c-e-y. Three letters.

…the procedure itself was nothing, though. Once they finally got an IV in me (it took four tries), they numbed me, and while I was fully alert the whole time, I didn’t feel a thing.

I had my first when I was 28. Of course, I have IBS, but other than that, the main reason is because I’ve got a family history of colon cancer on both sides of my family. The prep, though, was hellish, especially with damaged nerves from a spinal surgery in my mid-20s. My poor system just did not want to cooperate and flush out, and I almost had to postpone it. I’m not looking forward to my next one in two years…

“The teaching career will have more stability though.”

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Only if it’s full-time, my friend. I’m an adjunct, and my first year, I got to teach the maximum number of classes per semester, which meant a modest but doable income. Every year since, however, not even close. This past year? Out of a maximum limit of 10 class? I was assigned four at less than $2500 each. So…

I did it two different semesters… the most recent being fall 2009. I still have nightmares.

I actually subscribe to DogTV for my dog. I work a lot of hours, and it actually keeps her brain active when I can’t take many breaks to play with her. She acts out less, this way. Once, I even found one of her toys sitting on the TV stand right in front of the TV, like she was offering it to the lady asking her if she, “want[s] to play, Dog-dog? Good girl, Dog-dog!” When that didn’t work, she started whining each time the woman comes on. It’s adorable and hilarious.
