Today is Gil & Mimi’s 38th wedding anniversary. Wonder if she’s attending the Coach of the Year ceremony.

The Milford Star is the the town newspaper and The Trumpet is the MHS newspaper. No Bugles to be found on either paper’s masthead.

Back in the summer of 1969 while on a camping trip with Tod Andrews, Gil was sporting some serious whiskers so today’s morning stubble is not the first time an unshaven Gil has appeared in the strip.

That is why you and your editor need to be in reviewing the weekly sheets more carefully. Rod works fast but that sometimes leads to lettering and illustration errors. And of all the names to misspell…

“Maybe I’m missing something. Why is the assumption made this park is named for Berrill?”

So, Berill Ballpark, in a comic strip created by someone named Berrill, wasn’t intended to be a tribute? Quite the coincidence. If it wasn’t a misspelling then it was an intentional trolling and if that were to be the case it would reveal the writer’s true character, or lack thereof. I’m willing to give Henry the benefit of the doubt. It will be interesting to hear his response.

Acknowledged in my previous post with an indication that I don’t bother commenting on the myriad of mistakes that have been made since Henry took over but misspelling Jack Berrill’s name twice in one week deserves to be called out.

It wasn’t an inside joke. It was an attempted tribute to Jack that failed miserably due to the misspelling of his surname.

I can’t imagine that the misspelling was intentional. In this instance the quality control, which is the responsibility of the writer and editor, failed miserably. Under different circumstances (of which there have been many) I wouldn’t have bothered commenting but not when it comes to botching the spelling of the strip’s creator twice in one week.As I said previously, Henry and his editor need to acknowledge the mistake and apologize.

Both the writer and editor see the weekly slick prior to publication. While it is difficult to correct major art flaws there is always time to correct script errors/misspellings. The fact that Henry and his editor both missed this is unacceptable and an acknowledgement/apology should be issued immediately. To be clear, the spelling error was made by the artist but the final review is the responsibility of the writer & editor.
