aircraft-engineer, “social media” is just a tool. What is a “profound waste of time” is the use most people make of that tool. It can be an excellent professional promoting tool, or, if you carefully select what to access, an excellent source of in-depth information about many things, or (for me at least) sort of a “live laboratory” on the REAL dynamics of a lot of people (I’d seriously DISCOURAGE this kind of use though, as it could bring REALLY BAD surprises to those who think that “the real, deep human nature is kind and spiritual”), and much more. It all depends on the use one makes of social media, and the attitude one has about them. :)
