The policeman/cowboy moonlighting as volunteer fireman isn’t all that implausible when you get out into the rural counties.

He’s a hundreds of years old vampire, right? I wonder why his name is Gary. . . . Did he adopt the name when he moved to the ‘burbs? Or is it short for something more old-world vampirey? It’s nice to see the Addams make an appearance too.

No, Romney doesn’t believe in the white horse “prophecy.” I’ve been Mormon all my life and I’ve never heard anyone reference the white horse prophecy over the pulpit. It’s not doctrine. It’s more of urban legend. The actual source of it is a guy who wrote about a conversation he had with a guy who said he had had a conversation with Joseph Smith over 50+ years earlier! Just thought I’d put that out there. . . I don’t care much for Romney, and I don’t know who I’ll vote for yet, but I was surprised to see this old chestnut associated with Romney!

Thanks Mabrndt! I’d give you cookies if I could. The old layout had been driving me nuts because I couldn’t read anyone’s comments.

pschearer, thank you for your service—it sounds like you did your duty and it doesn’t matter to me that you weren’t shot at.

I think the thought of a loyal dog waiting for a master who will never come home is a fine symbol. Reminds me of Ulysses’ faithful dog Argos.

I love these videos of dogs welcoming home soldiers: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/40324
