The lyrics to the first stanza are quite nice (though difficult to sing!) but the next three stanzas are just a mess. It’s the third stanza that refers to hirelings and slaves but I’ll be darned if I know what Francis Scott Key was trying to say in those verses!
Personally I think it would be great if her parents continual to shell out thousands of dollars to improve LuAnn’s self esteem and aid in her quest for fulfillment. Though I question whether it’s really their responsibility. That burden should really lie with the government and those who refuse to pay their fair share.
While criticizing the stupidity of LuAnn and Prudence, I cannot help but applaud the intelligence of the town for not signing up for their lame theater camp.
