I have had that aha moment! I caught myself softly singing little nonsense songs to my puppy on a park bench…then the optics of the scene snapped me back into socially acceptable behavior. (The puppy seemed to like it, though)
Given the time of year and that this is a Jewish family, I believe that this strip reflects an annual practice called Tashlich. This is usually done on of the first day of Rosh Hashanah. We symbolically cast off our sins by throwing bread crumbs into a moving body of water , reflecting on self improvement, and reciting prayers of repentance.
