   I apologized to Terminal Frost for misstating my earlier post with faulty sentence structure. Of course, adjuncts get paid, just not very well in non-union states. I was faculty in three large universities with graduate programs, and have participated in departmental hiring decisions. I think some posters here don’t realize that adjuncts and tenure-track may have exactly the same formal education, and intend to seek the same kind of position. As I mentioned, some institutions deliberately cap their tenured slots at 60% or 80% of total hires.

   This morning (US Central) I’m going to the hospital for minor but unexpected surgery under general anesthesia. Not expecting any complications unless the cats jump on me in ouchy places. I’m much better off than some Orbsters and their loved ones that asking is embarrassing; your thoughts would still be a comfort.
