I had to miss a week; sounds like I missed a lot. Did Teresa actually post a “Vlad is dead” announcement before her blog went dark?
Ms. Burritt, if you’re still reading this, I only ask 2 things: Please let us know if this really is the end of the blog and the comic, and please, please, be well.
Mother Griser in Funk caps ad is Irma Griser, who as of 1952 had five sets of twins, one set of triplets and seven singletons. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1144&dat=19521002&id=iIMbAAAAIBAJ&sjid=rk0EAAAAIBAJ&pg=5497,478603
Re the missing arm in the Wadlow photo: Must have come from a newspaper’s photo collection. Very common in this era to perform crude surgery with paint to fix a composition. Child’s arm was painted over so photo could be cropped into a vertical showing only mom & son, without having part of the kid’s body peeking out on the left side.
Sorry, can’t figure out how to make a comment or send a message through the Frog Blog, but that Rolling Pin cartoon? That’s Jiggs, from Bringing Up Father, and the cartoonist is George McManus.
Thank you to everyone else here for cushioning the blow of Teresa’s move to new and, hopefully, green pastures.
