The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was founded on August 25, 1925 in New York City. The union was led by A. Philip Randolph and was the first predominately African American labor union. The members of the BSCP were porters employed by the Pullman Company.
Werner Groebli, known as Frick of the ice-skating comedy team of Frick and Frack, performed tricks like skating in circles while bent backward at the knees so his body was almost parallel to the ice. From a New York Times obituary 4/23/2008.
It would have been a neat trick to found the union 64 years before he was born.
