I took a break after high school and entered college in my mid 20’s on my own dime. Freshman year weeds out a lot. The number of kids that have little interest and are there because mommy and daddy are picking up the tab was huge. First time away from home and without adult supervision. Easy to spot many as they skipped morning classes and rarely completed assignments.
I worked on a project about 10 years ago to convert a failing mall to a senior complex. The idea was that the old anchor tenant spaces would be set up with apartments for seniors. One for memory care, one for assisted living, one for independent living. Larger spaces would be for the medical schools that train RNs and CNAs whose programs require intern work. Spaces for Dr offices, labs, and such. There was even a though of putting in a daycare facility so there would be an opportunity for seniors to read to children. Portions of the parking lot were going to be turned into green spaces. All the necessary infrastructure is already in place and they are on bus lines as well for easy access for workers. Got bogged down in funding and never went anywhere.
