I read an interview not to long ago with one of the Jive actors. He said Barbara Billingsley was nervous and didn’t know how to play her role. She asked the men for help and they taught her how to speak Jive. Said she was the nicest and sweetest person and took their suggestions to heart.
I read that the movie started off with a script but by the end it had turned into a suggestion box by all the actors involved. The writers had so much material suggested to them they had to make tough choices on what to add and omit.
They are helping. By leaving her alone for a while. My mom would do the same with my dad. She’d play it both ways. Told him to take us out and then told us to go with him and keep him out of trouble.
Not my parents. They had no shame and claimed their favorites as a reward for either being our chaperone or being the one to stay at home. My dad was usually the chaperone and spent more time talking with the neighbors than escorting us from house to house. They also weren’t above snooping through our bags because it was just there. My brother and I learned real fast to each have a decoy bag and showed our younger brother to do the same thing.
