Woolworth’s was on The Square and we would shop there some of the time. For me, it was Ben Franklin’s 5 & 10 about 4 blocks from our house. My mother had all of the fancy-looking teacup sets that they had. That means cup and saucer, only. None of the cups matched the other cups. Just one at time for all present-giving occasions because that was all I could think of a woman would want. But this cartoon really hits home. My grandmother, that lived with us, tried to teach me how to crochet. All I could do was make a single string. But when I was done, I had a “beautiful” bracelet for my mother. It actually was about the same color as the necklace shown, kind of this dark aqua thing. I gave it to her for Christmas—she wore it too their fancy, dress-up New Years party. I’ll never forget that. Thanks for pulling these memories to the forefront. (Oh, and we didn’t do nuts, we scrounged for pop bottles.)
I weary of Wiley and his ignorance. Several weeks ago, as implied in this stretch of comics, it is implied that by not getting “the” vaccine that we are harming other. The fact of the matter is, the vaccine ONLY protects YOU. A vaccinated person can still catch Covid and still pass it on. This was verified to me by two doctors, a nurse-practitioner, and a PhD in microbiology – all of whom are pro-vaccine. So, those that are not vaccinated DO NOT harm those around them any more than those that are. Don’t believe me, do your own research instead of getting your information from a cartoonist whose work should be on the editorial page.
What Mr. Miller, a.k.a. Obvious Man so obviously, and prejudicially ignores is that those people, on the night of the Electoral voting, whether right or wrong, lied to or enforcing the truth, deceived or proving deceit, believed, to the point of action (which most people do not have the courage to do), that they were NOT performing and act of insurrection but were trying to STOP an insurrection.
I’ve had those thoughts and probably shouldn’t. But, then again, those that drive slow in the passing line are just purely selfish. It’s not like they say, “Boy, I’ve had a long, hard day today. I think I’ll just drive slow in the passing lane.” I know there are 3 signs on my way to work stating, “Slower traffic keep right” but people still ignore it. One guy told me (He brought it up, not me.), “I drive there because that’s where I want to drive.”
How come we’re re-cycling already?! What happened to Salomey? With all the years Lil Abner was made why are we starting over again already? Is anyone monitoring this sequencing?
