The “Stand Your Ground” law was invoked in the instructions to the jury. Given that unethical law, they made the only decision they could have.
As to the wounds on Martin vs. those on Zimmerman, it may have been that Zimmerman was the only one who got punched. But that is irrelevant. If you approach someone and initial a confrontation, you are the responsible party. You don’t get to start a fight and then claim self-defense.
