   Weird timing, I just finished that book last night. Some science related plot holes but I liked it.

   Actually the last digit is dropped. Runway 26 would be just south of due west at 260 degrees. If you landed on the same runway the other direction, it would be runway 8 (260-180=80). The really big airports with parallel runways would list 26L and 26R for left and right.
