My grandmother sewed and crafted. She collected buttons that were “interesting” looking, just in case she found a use for them later. She never did, and I took them all when she passed. I wish we could post pictures on here, there’s are some real crazy ones!
They probably mean “lunch.” Some places call the afternoon meal “dinner,” and the evening meal is “supper.” Of course, if they meant the evening meal, sometimes couples have prior engagements that prevent them from eating together. No judgement here.
Please don’t make assumptions. Nobody I’m talking about had mental illness, nor was anyone alive during the Great Depression. These were just people who were enthusiastic hobbyists, not piles of garbage everywhere. It was still a year of my time to handle it all. Apparently it makes me a bad person to tell people not to burden others with all their stuff.
It also overwhelms the people who need to take care of the clutter and hoarding. I’ve cleaned out two houses so far, both borderline hoarders. I now routinely cull my own belongings. I think it’s selfish as heck to collect all that stuff for a lifetime and then expect someone else to deal with it.
Same where I grew up. But it’s different where I currently live. God forbid people do things differently in different parts of the world!
