What is usually referred to as a tri(athlon) bike, is a bike that complies with the rules for draft legal sic triathlons. These rules are less strict than for cycling time-trials. The design goal is to make them as aerodynamically efficient, so they position the rider with a horizontal back to minimise frontal area. The handlebars allow the arms to be narrow, and except for specific races, a solid (disc) wheel will be used. note that 650mm wheels were used in the past, but now only by some brands for the smallest riders.
They also have a reputation for carrying lots of bottles (as many riders don’t trust what the race will supply).
