The history of all civilizations/cultures, in the East, the West, Old World, New World, if full of plenty of bad examples to hold up and good examples to cling to. Live a few years in both England and the US to decide which is better today. It’s a lot deeper than police weapons and 800 year-old documents.
I’ve talked to lots of vets (and cops and others who have volunteered to take on the evils of the world), and I’ve never had one yet respond to a show of respect like this. Throwing this response out there as if it were “representative” just for a political eye-poking is just as disrespectful to vets as every Congress and every President slowly stripping them of promised rights and services.
This entitlement malarkey generates the heat of pride but not the light of wisdom. It keeps the unthinking masses under control by misdirection, so the powerful can do as they please. All rights are bestowed by power; their declaration is meaningless without a simultaneous declaration and common acknowledgement and acceptance of the power that upholds them. The UN’s socialist manifesto, mockingly derived from the simple “life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness” origins of the US founding fathers, is all about taking and not about giving. It is a copy in form, not substance, and can never succeed, ever.
Is anyone in this strip right-handed (notice banjo here, other strips guitars, any character writing). Is Pastis a lefty? Are we watching this strip in a mirror?
This is an old Dilbert cartoon (15-20 years ago) with Wally telling Asok, “It’ll burn your hand clean off!”
