At first, my eyes did not interpret that as a table with wine spilled. They instead saw it as the floor with a pool of blood and a leg sticking out of it. The empty bottles and scrawled message further made it look like a very, very disturbing murder scene….
Given the life expectancy of a goldfish in a bowl in the real world, combined with the life expectancy of pearls side characters, it makes sense that its a different goldfish every time we see it, the previous having died and been replaced several times since the last strip, even if just days apart.
