    mikefive – Look at what NC tried to put through. A very limited number of IDs acceptable, college students need to return to their hometowns to vote and can’t register where they live most of the year, and similarly to other states, make it more difficult to get IDs in places more likely to vote Dem. Add to that that it costs money, transportation, and time off from work to get an ID. We’re not talking about registering to vote – we’re talking about getting the proper ID to vote. And we’re talking about one side wanting to make it a lot harder to exercise one’s Constitutional right to vote. You may be OK with taking away that right. I’m not, nor are a lot of others.

    @J.Short – The states that have done this (most notably, Florida) have found that it costs more to do the testing than they saved by “catching” people and taking away their benefits, and have also found that drug use amongst welfare recipients is lower than in the general population. The biggest profit from all of it wasn’t to the tax-payer, but to the company that runs the drug tests.
